Eric de Suremain Chateau de Monthelie | 2018 Rully 1er Cru ‘Préaux’ | $58 x 6 bottles
Eric de Suremain Chateau de Monthelie | 2018 Rully 1er Cru ‘Préaux’ | $58 x 6 bottles
This traditional pinot noir with a charmingly suave and spirited soul is born from clay/limestone soils. The single vineyard grapes are 100% de-stemmed, fermented with natural yeasts and punch downs are done by foot. Suremain employs short pump-overs and vertical pressing followed by barrel aging for upwards of 2 years. Elegantly riding a line between deep complexity and fresh vibrancy, bright red currant is balanced by smooth black cherry and hints of florality are underlined by a bit of fresh earth. A touch of rusticity in the tannins reminds you of its approachability. In Rully where red wine is only one-third of its production, this stand-out gem hits all the marks and will continue to do so for its 10+ years of aging potential. As far as Burgundy goes, the quality, ageability and fantastic price point make this a wine cellar must!
