Gilles Bonnefoy | 2021 Les Rougeots du Clos | $36 x 6 bottles
Grown in soils on and around the volcano of the ‘Madone,’ Les Rougeots du Clos is a vibrant expression of Gamay with complex earthy notes firmly placing it in the ring as a serious contender up against the best of Beaujolais. With the proper chill, it’s a great “outdoors” wine but don’t pooh-pooh its potential for great food pairings. (See below for spec sheet)
organic/biodynamic with little to no sulphur additions, made from three ancient varieties of Gamay - de Chadenay, de Bouze and de Gamaret, vines are grown on a parcel of migmatite (granite/clay) at an altitude of 600m, destemmed, natural yeasts and fermented in stainless steel
bright and pure red/dark berry flavours, complex earthy notes, florality, lush mouthfeel, taut structure, and of course, a distinct top note of minerality that wakes your mouth up and makes it salivate.
